Mark Dobell (Tenor)

Mark was born in Tunbridge Wells and educated at The King's School, Canterbury, and subsequently as a Choral Scholar of Clare College, Cambridge, where he read Classics. Upon graduating he took up a position as a lay clerk at St George's Chapel, Windsor, where he sang for the wedding of the Earl and Countess of Wessex in 1999.

Mark has an extensive concert and oratorio repertoire. Recent highlights include a Michael Head centenary recital and a performance of Britten's Winter Words. Oratorio appearances include Bach's St John Passion in Rome and Handel's Alexander's Feast for the London Handel Festival as well as the Mozart Requiem for Gloucester Choral Society in July 2001.

On stage, Mark has sung the roles of Male Chorus, in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, and Ferrando in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte for Eastern Opera. Other roles studied include Don Ottavio in Don Giovanno and Menippus in Robert Moran's The Dracula Diary for New Professionals Opera. Future roles include Doubcek in Janacek's Osud for Garsington Opera.

In addition to his work as a soloist, Mark sings with many leading choirs and concert groups, such as Henry's Eight and The Sixteen, with whom he toured the United States.

Mark recently completed his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, under the tuition of Edward Brooks and Iain Ledingham. He was awarded the Clifton prize for the best final recital.
