Marie Elliott (Contralto)
Marie was born in Devon and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Adrian Thompson and the late Johanna Peters. She is currently at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Mark Wildman and Clara Taylor, where she has won the Winifred Disney Award, the Lucille Graham Award and the Isabel Jay Prize for Opera. She started a two-year opera course there in September.
She has received coaching from Dame Janet Baker and Sarah Walker as well as taking part in a three-day masterclass at the Wigmore Hall with Brigette Fassbänder.
Marie's solo oratorio work includes the world première of Karl Rütti's Stabat Mater at St John's, Smith Square, Mozart's Requiem at Gloucester Cathedral, The Apostles at Wells Cathedral, Verdi's Requiem at Bedford School, Elijah at Bishop Stortford School, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater at St Martin-in-the-Fields, and performances of Bach's Weihnachts Oratorium conducted by Lutz Kohler both at Hanau Castle in Germany and in the Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music.
Marie has performed in scenes from Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte (Dorabella), Rossini's Il Barbiere di Scivilia (Rosina), Britten's Rape of Lucretia (Lucretia) and Rossini's Le Comte Ory (Isolier). She made her full opera debut in April in the rôle of Teodata in Handel's Flavio, with the London Royal Schools' Opera. Forthcoming engagements include Irene in Handel's Theodora in the Spitalfields Festival, a solo recital in St. James' Piccadilly, Schumann's Dichterliebe in the Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music and the Verdi Requiem in Spain.
