Musical Discovery Evening: Tippett & A Child of our Time
11th November 2011
7:30pm, Cathedral Chapter House
An illustrated talk by Stephen Johnson together with Hannah Roper (violin) and Adrian Partington (piano). Their programme will include a transcription of music from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
Stephen Johnson has the gift of enabling audiences to understand even the most apparently inaccessible music by his deceptively simple and engaging manner. This talk will add to your enjoyment of our performance of A Child of our Time the following week.
Hannah Roper is a remarkable young violinist. Still at school in Hereford, she already holds a prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra scholarship. She studies with Rodney Friend.
Adrian Partington is, of course, our own Musical Director, in addition to being Musical Director at Gloucester Cathedral. He is also a formidable accompanist, regularly playing for Margaret Faultless (violin).
We are delighted that the Gloucester Three Choirs Festival’s educational strand, Three Choirs Plus, is joining with us in presenting this evening and we thank them for their support.
