Rebecca Ryan (Soprano)

Rebecca was born in New Zealand and graduated from the University of Otago with a first-class degree in Music and an arts degree in Information Science. She is now in her second year of Postgraduate Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Penny Mackay.

Rebecca has taken part in master classes with Diane Forlano, Nigel Douglas, John Streets and Barbara Bonney. During her study at the Academy she has won the Rutson Prize for English Song and been a soloist in the Bach Festival. She also had the opportunity to sing the newly-discovered Handel Gloria at its first performance in the United Kingdom.

Oratorio appearances include Bach's Saint Matthew Passion, Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, and Haydn's The Creation. In addition to recitals given in New Zealand and England, Rebecca's operatic experience includes rôles in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Weill's The Threepenny Opera, and Purcell's King Arthur and The Fairy Queen.
