GCS Young Singers

All involved with Gloucester Choral Society are very proud of the progress our Young Singers (GCSYS) have made in the first years of this exciting project. We were extremely fortunate that Bob Chilcott, one of Britain’s premier contemporary composers, agreed to become the President of GCS Young Singers. Bob has expressed enormous enthusiasm for this venture and will certainly provide inspiration to current and future members.

GCS’s innovative Young Singers Scholarship scheme started in 2009 and Adrian Partington has tremendous enthusiasm for the scheme. Singers are supported with small group tuition and guidance by Russell Burton. Russell is a tenor lay clerk at Gloucester Cathedral and a chorister singing teacher. He also conducts the county junior choir. His tuition and support has given GCSYS members the confidence to sing in all our concerts. They have blended into a vibrant addition to the full choir and we hope they will have a lifelong enjoyment of choral singing. GCSYS members also compete for both the Ken Fox Prize and the Frances Henson Cup.
Some of our original singers have now left to go on to university and we have vacancies. This exciting project will grow as more young people are made aware of this fantastic opportunity.
If you would like to join, or know someone who would (age 14 – 18), please contact Sally Scanlon on 01242 576471, email youngsingers@gloucesterchoral.com.
