Performer Profile
Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir
Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir is an outstanding musical and educational opportunity for any young singer. Its members are aged 13-19, and come from schools all around Gloucestershire. Currently there are around 22 singers in the choir, divided between Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass parts, and we are always interested to hear from singers who would like to join.
The choir meets twice a week, and every Thursday evening sings Evensong in the Cathedral. This is the basis for the choir's existence. The Youth choir also sings at many of the Cathedral's biggest events, such as Midnight Mass and the Easter Vigil service, and sometimes joins forces with Gloucester Cathedral Choir for major occasions.
Beyond the Youth choir's weekly routine, there are a number of special events, which include concerts, broadcasts and tours. Recent events have included tours to Ireland, Sweden and Tuscany, appearing twice with English Touring Opera (in Jonathan Dove's Tobias and the Angel and Monteverdi's Orfeo), and singing live on BBC1 for the annual broadcast of Midnight Mass. On the 25th November the choir will broadcast the Sunday Worship service live on BBC Radio 4.
Many previous members of the choir have gone on to University Choral Scholarships, for which we provide training, and nearly all are still involved in singing.
