Claire Wild
Claire attended the Royal Northern College of Music where she was sponsored by the Peter Moores Foundation and the Musicians Benevolent Fund. She has studied with Ava June‚ Caroline Crawshaw‚ Lilian Watson and Janis Kelly. She was the winner of the 2002 Webster Booth Award‚ the James Oncken Song Prize and the Frost Browson award for singing.
While still a student‚ Claire made her debut with Opera North singing Sandman and Dew Fairy Hansel und Gretel‚ then Emmie Albert Herring‚ title role L’enfant et les sortilèges‚ Papagena Die Zauberflöte‚ Esmeralda Bartered Bride and Despina Cosi fan tutte. She sang Gretel with Scottish Opera and Herald The Minataur on the Essential Scottish Opera Tour‚ Martine in John Browne’s Babette’s Feast for the Royal Opera’s‚ Linbury Studio‚ Leona La Belle Helene for English National Opera‚ Nausikaa in Birds‚ Barks and bones by Edward Rushton and the Bird in Judith Weir’s Blonde Eckbert for the Opera Group‚ the title role in The Cricket Recovers by Richard Ayres for the Almeida/Aldeburgh Festival and Walter La Wally for Chelsea Opera Group‚ Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro in Bielefeld and Papagena Die Zauberflöte for Komische Oper‚ Berlin.
Claire Wild’s concert repertoire includes Messiah and Carmina Burana and she was soloist for Raymond Gubbay and Opera North’s Christmas and New Year Gala concerts. She also appeared in a Channel Four Film of Twelfth Night directed by Tim Supple.
Recent engagements include the title role The Cricket Recovers and Cynthia in a new production of Playing Away both for the Bregenz Festival‚ Priestess Iphigenie en Tauride for the Royal Opera‚ Covent Garden‚ Frasquita Carmen for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall‚ concerts with the Northern Sinfonia at the Sage‚ Gateshead and in Aldeburgh‚ the German premiere of Cricket Recovers (Die Grille) for the Junge Oper Staatstheater Stuttgart‚ Lucio Sinna Lucio Silla with the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestera and Gretel at Opera North. Plans include Potboy and Child Prodigy The Excursions of Mr Broucek at Opera North and Scottish Opera‚ and Zerlina Don Giovanni at Opera Holland Park.
